Who is Josh Marris?

When he took up the game of golf at the age of 11, Josh was immediately drawn to the challenges the game provides and the lessons in life that it teaches to those who play it. Growing up in the Australian town of Bundaberg, Queensland, Josh has always had the ambition of taking his golf game to the international stage. Now basing himself in the United States city of Los Angeles, California, Josh is pursuing his childhood dream of competing on the US PGA Tour. Beyond this however,  Josh's major aim is to pass on knowledge from his experiences in the USA to help develop the next generation of golfer and to prepare more Australians for competition on the world tours.

From Captain of his high school golf team in his senior year to Queensland PGA Trainee Professional of the Year, Josh has always aimed high and achieved the goals he sets for himself. A hard worker and student of the game, golf is certainly his ultimate passion.

Upon completing his senior year at Bundaberg High in 2002, Josh was offered employment at Noosa Springs Resort. The 5-star golf facility on Australia's Sunshine Coast was a stepping stone for his move to the state capital of Brisbane, where he would complete his PGA Apprenticeship at the prestigious Royal Queensland Golf Club.

During his time as a Trainee Professional at the Club, Josh was named Queensland Trainee of the Year in 2009 and received the Titleist-FootJoy Excellence in Education Scholarship in 2008, 2009 and 2010. These awards acknowledged the combination of Josh's academic results and playing performances; the scholarship ranking him in the top 3 trainee professionals in Australia each year.

Josh completed his apprenticeship in December 2010, becoming a full member of the PGA of Australia. In January 2011, he journeyed to the USA to compete in mini tour events in Florida. After three months Josh returned home to Brisbane, Australia, and worked towards returning to the USA in December 2011. While competing in the Mining Town Series in Central Queensland during his time back in Australia, Josh posted his lowest competition round as a professional of -5 to have the shared lead in the two-day Middlemount Pro-Am. The experience of leading such an event, and placing 20th during the 8-round series, is the main highlight of Josh's short tournament career.

In his time back in Australia in 2011, along with competing in tournaments, Josh spent time teaching golf at the Victoria Park Golf Complex in Brisbane and the Canberra International Golf Centre in the nation's capital.

Josh is extremely community focused and likes to support a good cause when he sees one. In September 2011, Josh completed a personal challenge to play 10 rounds of golf in 24 hours to raise funds for cancer research at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research. He completed the challenge at Victoria Park with five minutes to spare and raised almost $5000 for QIMR cancer research.

Outside of golf, Josh has an interest in playing music. He played the trombone for seven year, was a member of the Bundaberg Municipal and Wide Bay Brass bands, and was also a member of a jazz band. Though he gave this up when he completed high school, Josh has enjoyed teaching himself to play the piano since he was 15, and in more more recent years the guitar. "I just love to sit down and play either the piano or guitar to relax."
